Volvo and then some Part 2

Here is the story she told verbatim, that not only brings tears to my eyes to realize how lucky I am to have such a great Mom, but of course, makes me think about the car too. :)

"When your Dad and I first met, I was driving this horrible little green Buick station wagon that was just a "piece", as Jaymie likes to refer to broken-down cars. He had a red Vega..... don't know if you can remember. Anyway, when we finally got engaged (please remember that I had to ask HIM to marry ME..... has nothing to do with Volvo's, but I'm just sayin'), we started looking for a more reliable car for me that we could afford. I was driving Jason back and forth from my apartment in Westminster to Little Grandma's in Denver. It was horrible in the snow, so Dad wanted to find something safer for us.

We happened to come across someone selling a "gold" '71 Volvo in his neighborhood. This was in 1975, so it was only four years old. It was a good deal and so we bought it. We found everything that everyone ever told us about Volvo's to be true. They are heavy, solid, straight as you go when you need to stop in the snow, and just all in all a very safe, solid car. That's how we originally fell into being Volvo lovers. Then, many years later, we needed to replace that Volvo and bought another one..... an '86 Volvo. Everyone learned how to drive in the '81 Volvo.

Then....... when Mom and Dad were able to buy you a car, again, with Robert...... we wanted to make sure that you had a solid, safe and reliable car. Volvo's have always been everything we hoped for......

Everything you never knew about a Volvo and then some – Part 1

Volvo has been a trusted auto manufacturer for literally decades and is one of the auto industry's strongest brands. Officially founded in 1927 when the very first Volvo car rolled off the production line, the automaker has since made history year after year with innovative technological advancements, engineering everything from cars, trucks, buses and construction equipment to military aircraft engines, marine diesel engines and Space propulsion sub-systems ie: Rocket engines! That brings a whole new meaning to the term 'Rocket Science'.

The word Volvo is derived from the Latin word "volver" which literally means "I Roll". Originally built to withstand cold weather and rough roads in Sweden, the Volvo vehicle is known for it's tough and sturdy engineering. Do you remember seeing them on the road when you were growing up? It was our family's vehicle of choice and was eventually passed on to us when we were old enough to drive. I believe if we still had that car today, that it would undoubtedly run, and I could probably pass it on to my own children!

Speaking of history, science, and children which are our future, leads me to my next thought... the enviroment. Just what is Volvo doing to help protect our environment? Volvo is cutting emissions by eliminating 95% to 99% of it's carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbon emmisions. The XC90's V8 engine is even considered an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV)and complies with California's stringent emission standard. Volvo has also cut solvent emissions along with other potentially hazardous substances such as phosperous, chromium, nickel and zinc from all of there plants, with some some plants having these health hazards completely removed. Volvo is proud to claim that their factories are among the cleanest in the world. Is it any wonder the tag line reads - Volvo. for life - ?
